Body / Brazilian Butt Lift & Buttock Implants

Brazilian Butt Lift & Buttock Implants

Buttock augmentation is among Dr. Marc DuPéré's specialties. Only a few North American plastic surgeons perform these procedures. Dr. DuPéré discovered the power of a full, round, and sexy buttock area while traveling and learning in Brazil.

Brazilian Butt Lift & Buttock Implants

Dr. DuPéré has been performing buttock augmentation since he initially learned the procedure in 2004 and after attending various courses given by 4 world specialists: Dr. De La Pina in Mexico, Dr. Mendieta in Miami, Dr. Del Vecchio in Boston, and Dr. Gonzalez in Brazil. DuPéré offers buttock augmentation procedures including the Brazilian butt lift for Toronto men and women.

The appeal of soft, full bottoms isn’t a new phenomenon. A curvy, round behind has been a timeless feminine quality before the option of surgical buttocks augmentation came along.

For men, round, muscular-looking buttocks are also highly desirable and many turn to their cosmetic surgeon for a little help in that department.

Aesthetics of the Buttocks

In both men and women, musculature and fat provide buttock definition. Excess fat above and around the buttocks can make them appear smaller and flatter. Therefore, buttock augmentation procedures require some liposuction for many patients. This may take place in the flanks, love handles, saddlebags, lower back, or upper thighs. The length of the inter-buttock “crease,” or cleft, is also important in the aesthetics of the buttock. You may have seen some buttocks with a very short cleft, making the buttocks look small and too low. Dr. DuPéré often modifies this cleft to add definition.

How Can Buttock Augmentation Help?

Buttock augmentation procedures can give you several benefits, including:

  • Fuller, sexier buttocks
  • Better fitting clothing
  • A lift of the soft tissue to restore firmness

With the advancement of natural-looking Brazilian butt lift (BBL) techniques using a patient’s own body fat, achieving this sexy hourglass figure ideal has become more attainable for many.

Part of the incredible popularity that drives demand for this procedure is its double benefit of slimming the waistline and other problem areas while adding volume in the desired region. It’s a two-in-one benefit that results in a figure transformation, all with virtually invisible scars.

Buttock Augmentation Techniques

Dr. DuPéré achieves buttock augmentation with two distinct techniques, often combined for optimal results: buttock implants and Brazilian butt lift.

  • Buttock Implants
  • Brazilian Butt Lift
  • The Procedure

Buttock implants come in various shapes and sizes. Some of the implants Dr. DuPéré uses are made of solid yet very soft silicone material that feels like a very soft gummy bear candy and are carvable. Others are made of silicone polymer gel.

Dr. DuPéré inserts implants via a 5- to 7-cm incision within the crease between the buttocks. The scar is easily camouflaged in the shadow of this crease.

Dr. DuPéré places implants either under the fascia, or connective tissue, of the buttock muscle or within the muscle itself, which helps blunt all edges of the implant so it looks smooth and natural.

This technique uses the patient’s own fat to augment the buttocks. Dr. DuPéré begins by harvesting fat via liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, love handles, thighs, and inner knees. He then prepares the fat before injecting it meticulously, one layer at a time, into the fatty regions of the buttocks. He may also use this fat transfer technique to treat adjacent depressions.

A second fat transfer session is sometimes required in order to achieve the desired volume. For that reason, Dr. DuPéré often “overfills” during the first procedure.

Performed under general anesthesia, buttock augmentation takes an average of 3 hours (for implants alone) to 5 hours (for implants, liposuction, and fat grafting) of surgical time.

Women can achieve a curvier hour-glass figure in form-fitting dresses. They throw on workout clothes or a swimsuit to get out and active more often after confidence is boosted with a BBL. Men can target abs and flanks to remove stubborn pockets of fat and reveal a cut physique, while adding volume and firm, round shape to their butt.

Who is a Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift in Toronto?

The Brazilian Butt Lift also known as the BBL is a popular body contouring procedure designed to enhance the shape and size of the buttocks (and often the hip-dips and outer thighs), creating a more voluptuous and curvaceous appearance. Ideal candidates for the BBL typically include individuals who desire a fuller, rounder, and more lifted buttocks and a more hourglass silhouette while simultaneously achieving a more contoured waistline.

Suitable Candidates:

  • Desire for Enhanced Buttocks and hips: Candidates should have a genuine desire to enhance the shape and size of their buttocks and/or hips achieving a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing lower body profile.
  • Adequate Fat Reserves: The BBL involves using the patient’s own fat, harvested from other areas of the body through liposuction, to sculpt and augment the buttocks. Suitable candidates should have sufficient fat reserves in areas such as the abdomen, thighs, arms, back, inner knees or flanks to allow for successful fat transfer.
  • Good General Health: Candidates should be in good overall health and have no underlying medical conditions that could increase the risks associated with surgery.
  • Realistic Expectations: It is important for candidates to have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the BBL. While the procedure can significantly enhance the buttocks’ appearance, individual results may vary based on factors such as the patient’s existing body shape and skin elasticity.
  • Commitment to Aftercare: Following the BBL, candidates should be committed to following post-operative instructions, including proper wound care, wearing compression garments, and avoiding pressure on the buttocks during the initial healing period.

Recovering from Buttock Augmentation

Most patients go home on the day of their procedure. You will need someone to stay with you overnight, and perhaps for a few days, to help you in and out of bed and assist with household chores. If needed, we can arrange overnight supervision by a nurse.

Postoperative visits to Dr. DuPéré’s clinic will be frequent for several weeks. You will need to make provisions before surgery for transportation, as most patients who undergo fat grafting cannot drive for 2 weeks in order to maximize fat “take.” Long car trips and airplane rides are not recommended for 3 to 4 weeks after your fat grafting Brazilian butt lift procedure.

  • You won’t be allowed to sit for 2 weeks, and you should limit physical activity for another 2 to 4 weeks beyond that.

  • Drains are usually required for 5 days or so. Showering is allowed 5 to 7 days after surgery and after the drains are removed.

  • You will wear an elastic compression garment for 4 weeks to limit swelling and help the tissues heal in their new contours.

  • Avoid gym activity for 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. Absolute commitment to the postoperative instructions is essential for optimal results.

Risks and Complications

Dr. DuPéré’s duty as a surgeon is to inform patients of possible complications after surgery. These include: small scars, discomfort for a few days, bruising around the surgical sites, temporary loss of sensation over the surgical sites, asymmetry, seroma, hematoma, infection, nerve and vessel injury, risks related to liposuction (dimpling, irregularity, fat embolism, too much or not enough fat removal, cardiovascular issues, and so on), sub-optimal fat “take,” palpable and visible buttock implants, capsular contracture, asymmetry, and general anesthesia-related complications.

FAQ’s about BBL

  • Can I Sit Or Lie Down After A Brazilian Butt Lift?

After a Brazilian Butt Lift, it is important to avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks for at least two weeks, or as instructed by Dr. DuPéré. This precaution is necessary to ensure the survival of the transferred fat cells. Instead, you will be advised to use a special cushion or pillow to distribute your weight onto your thighs or abdomen when sitting. Sleeping on your stomach or side is also recommended during the initial recovery period. Following your surgeon’s instructions regarding sitting and lying positions is crucial to achieve optimal results and avoid complications.

  • Will The Results Of A Brazilian Butt Lift Look Natural?

When performed by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. DuPéré, a Brazilian Butt Lift can provide natural-looking results. The procedure involves using your own fat to enhance the shape and size of your buttocks, which helps create a more natural appearance compared to synthetic implants. The surgeon carefully sculpts the buttocks, taking into account your individual body proportions and desired outcome. By selecting the right areas for fat harvesting and strategically injecting the fat, a natural-looking and proportionate result can be achieved.

  • Can I Combine A Brazilian Butt Lift With Other Procedures?

Yes, a Brazilian Butt Lift can be combined with other procedures to achieve a more comprehensive transformation. Many individuals choose to combine a BBL with procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, or breast augmentation to address multiple areas of concern. This combined approach allows for a more harmonious overall result, as it can improve body proportions and contour multiple areas simultaneously. During a consultation, Dr. DuPéré will assess your specific needs and goals, and discuss the possibility of combining procedures to help you achieve your desired outcome.

  • How Long Do The Results Of A Brazilian Butt Lift Last?

The results of a Brazilian Butt Lift can be long-lasting, especially when proper post-operative care is followed. The transferred fat cells that survive the initial healing period can establish a permanent blood supply and integrate into the surrounding tissues. However, it is important to note that fluctuations in weight, aging, and lifestyle factors can affect the appearance of your buttocks over time. Maintaining a stable weight, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and following your surgeon’s instructions can help prolong the longevity of your results.

  • Can I Exercise After A Brazilian Butt Lift?

Exercise should be avoided during the initial recovery period after a Brazilian Butt Lift. Dr. DuPéré will provide specific guidelines regarding when it is safe to resume exercise and what activities are appropriate for your recovery stage. Typically, light activities such as walking can be resumed within a few days to promote blood circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots. However, strenuous exercise and activities that put direct pressure on the buttocks should be avoided for several weeks. Your surgeon will provide personalized instructions based on your progress and healing process.

  • Can I Lose Weight After A Brazilian Butt Lift?

While a Brazilian Butt Lift can enhance the shape and size of your buttocks, it is important to maintain realistic expectations and understand that it is not a weight-loss procedure.

Significant weight loss after a BBL may affect the appearance of your buttocks. It is advisable to reach and maintain a stable weight before undergoing the procedure to achieve the best possible results. If you plan to lose weight after a BBL, it is essential to do so gradually and in a healthy manner, as rapid weight loss can negatively impact the transferred fat cells.

  • How Soon Can I See The Final Results Of A Brazilian Butt Lift?

The final results of a Brazilian Butt Lift gradually emerge over time as the swelling subsides and the transferred fat settles into its new position. While you will notice an immediate improvement in the shape and size of your buttocks, the full results may take several months to become apparent.

Swelling typically resolves within the first few weeks, but the final outcome may take up to six months or more to be fully visible. It is important to be patient during the recovery process and follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions for optimal healing and results.

  • Will The Incisions From Liposuction Be Noticeable After A Brazilian Butt Lift?

The incisions made during liposuction for fat harvesting in a Brazilian Butt Lift are typically small and strategically placed in inconspicuous areas. The incisions are designed to minimize scarring and can often be easily hidden by clothing or natural body contours. With proper post-operative care, the incisions tend to heal well and become less noticeable over time. Dr. DuPéré will provide detailed instructions on how to care for the incisions and manage scarring to optimize healing and achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome.

  • Can I Get A Brazilian Butt Lift If I Don’t Have Enough Fat For Harvesting?

In order to perform a Brazilian Butt Lift, there needs to be enough excess fat in other areas of your body for harvesting. However, if you do not have sufficient fat deposits, you may not be a suitable candidate for a traditional BBL. In such cases, alternative options may be available, such as buttock implants or nonsurgical buttock augmentation with dermal fillers. Consulting with Dr. DuPéré will allow him to evaluate your specific case and recommend the most appropriate treatment options for achieving your desired buttock enhancement.

  • Will I Need To Wear A Compression Garment After A Brazilian Butt Lift?

Yes, wearing a compression garment is typically part of the post-operative care instructions following a Brazilian Butt Lift. The compression garment helps reduce swelling, provide support to the treated areas, and promote optimal healing. Dr. DuPéré will provide specific guidelines on how long to wear the garment and when it can be removed temporarily for activities such as showering. It is important to follow these instructions diligently to ensure proper healing and maximize the effectiveness of the procedure.
