Face / Chin Implants

Chin Implants

The aesthetics of your facial contour depend on the delicate relationship between your features — how your nose relates to your chin or lips, for example. To create harmony and balance in the face, Dr. Marc DuPéré offers chin implants at his Toronto practice, helping patients improve their proportions, refine their profiles, or strengthen a weak chin.

To Create Harmony and Balance

A thorough evaluation of your facial features is the first step in creating a treatment path. Request a consultation using our online form to meet with Dr. DuPéré, or call our office at (416) 929-9800 to schedule an appointment at his Toronto location.

How Can Chin Implants Help?

A receding or “weak” chin can affect your overall appearance, especially in profile. In fact, some patients who are considering rhinoplasty to improve their profiles may be better served by getting chin augmentation to balance out the lower portion of the face.

A more prominent chin can also create a more defined jawline and streamline the neck’s contours. Both men and women can be good candidates for chin implants, but Dr. DuPéré understands that the aesthetic ideal of a male chin is quite different than that for females. A “strong” male chin has a more squared shape, and women desire a more elegant, refined look. That being said, aging is often accompanied by a loss of muscle and bone mass and a chin implant is often combined with our facelift and neck lift procedure, for both males and females, to compensate for that age-related loss of volume.

In general, a chin implant can:

  • Correct facial asymmetry
  • Enhance the definition of your jawline
  • Improve the appearance of a receding chin for a stronger profile
  • Balance your lower face with more prominent upper-face features such as the nose, cheek bones, and brow
  • Help disguise “marionette lines” that can develop over time on each side of the chin
  • Correct the early stages of aging in the neck

Dr. DuPéré can also address other concerns at the time of your surgery by adding other face procedures such as a face and neck lift. This is a popular and effective way to get an overall enhancement, and it’s very safe in the hands of an experienced surgeon such as Dr. DuPéré.

Recovering After Chin Implant Surgery

Bruising and swelling occur after the procedure, and some discomfort is expected for a few days. Cold compresses applied to the site help reduce swelling but must be gently applied because there should be no pressure on the implant for the first 72 hours. A gentle facial garment is provided. Plan to take about a week off work to ensure the healing process isn’t compromised. Dr. DuPéré removes the stitches at your follow-up appointment.

  • Although the majority of swelling resolves within 10 days to 2 weeks, the final results of the procedure will appear up to 2 months after the surgery. Chin implants can last indefinitely.

Risks and Complications

Every surgery comes with potential risks. Though serious complications are rare, Dr. DuPéré educates all chin implant surgery patients about risks such as: scarring, opening of the wound, temporary discomfort, bleeding and bruising around the surgical sites, loss of sensation over the surgical site, the lower lip and around the scar, fluid accumulation (seroma and hematomas), infection (extremely rare), nerve and vessel injury (a risk with any surgery), and wound opening (possibly treatable with wound care).
