Suction-assisted liposuction has always remained a top choice despite the constant appearance of new instruments on the ever-demanding market for liposuction. This is because suction-assisted liposuction produces consistent and predictable results and has a low complication rate. In order to achieve a better shape and contour, Dr. DuPéré often performs suction-assisted liposuction in Toronto. He applies the principles of SAFELipo® and tumescent infiltration.

Both men and women in Toronto continue to find liposuction to be one of the most appealing aspects of cosmetic surgery. This is due to the fact that it is usual to have “problem” areas that just won’t go away, regardless of how fit you are or how conscientious you are with your diet.

You can shape your way to a more athletic image with the help of a liposuction treatment by consulting with Dr. Marc DuPéré in Toronto, who is a plastic surgeon who is certified by the Royal College. You can submit an online consultation request or give our office a call at (416) 929-9800.

Benefits Of Liposuction In Toronto

Liposuction is known for its immense amount of benefits and it has been utilized by men and women for decades. That said, it’s important to remember that the liposuction process is not a method of weight loss but more for aesthetic and cosmetic reasons.

People who are already at or very close to their ideal weight but are concerned about fat deposits that are resistant to good lifestyle choices are ideal candidates for this treatment. A lot of the time, genetics can also play a part. Your reasons for wanting liposuction are as individual as your body, however the following are some of the most common reasons why Dr. DuPéré conducts this procedure:

  • To create a slimmer, more toned contour in regions such as the abdomen, waist, thighs, back, and arms.
  • To enhance the body’s natural proportions and contours.
  • To create definition in the jawline and the neck.
  • To get rid of the fatty deposits that refuse to go away even after a big weight loss.

How Can Liposuction Help?

This procedure provides a more defined, more athletic, and sexier body by:

  • Selectively removing fat
  • Providing more of an hourglass shape for women
  • Restoring the V shape of the male torso
  • Creating sexier lines in the legs
  • Sculpting the buttocks for a firmer and fuller appearance
  • Flattening the abdomen
  • Correcting a double chin

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that removes fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. With tiny, easily hidden incisions and a relatively quick downtime, you could get rid of that stubborn fat bulge for good! Sculpting (and etching!) the abdomen, “love handles”, thighs, back of the arms and more can make your clothing fit more comfortably and form-fitting swimwear or gym clothes, fun to show off.

If you are concerned about fat on the neck that creates a double chin, you may also be a good candidate for non-surgical BELKYRA™ injections. Dr. DuPéré can help you determine which is best for your needs.

Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure but rather a sculpting technique to provide more attractive, sexier contours. It is most suitable for people who are committed to staying in shape via good nutrition and regular exercise. Overweight patients and those who have experienced significant weight loss may need a combination of liposuction and skin excision procedures. Individuals with a condition called lipedema, characterized by excessive fat accumulation in the lower extremities, may undergo larger-volume liposuction in stages.

Many people struggle with uneven bulges. Find out what liposuction can do for your figure and your confidence. This is one of our most in-demand and satisfying contouring surgeries. Liposuction benefits include fast recovery time and virtually invisible incisions. Call for your consultation and get ready to change how you feel about your shape.

Dr. DuPéré’s Liposuction Techniques

Liposuction and liposculpting use several specially tipped cannulas to shape the various parts of the body. Common areas include the neck, arms, abdomen, love handles, back and bra rolls, buttocks, hips, outer and inner thighs, inner knees, and calves.

Dr. DuPéré’s experience with various technologies — including suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), ultrasonic, VASER®, power-assisted liposuction (PAL), Smartlipo™, and BodyTite™ — has given him the wisdom to choose the tool that works best for a patient’s unique needs.

Prior to the procedure, Dr. DuPéré makes detailed markings on the patient. Most procedures take place under full general anesthesia, although the doctor can also treat specific areas such as the neck or the inner knees under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. The procedure starts with a tumescent solution, a technique that has revolutionized our liposuction procedures. A tumescent solution is a mixture of diluted local anesthetics with a small amount of adrenaline (epinephrine). The adrenaline temporarily shrinks the blood vessels and leads to less bruising, allowing Dr. DuPéré to remove more unwanted fat safely. In Canada, removing up to 5,000 ml at a time is considered safe.

The painter is the one who creates a masterpiece — not the brush. Make sure your plastic surgeon is an artist and uses sound and safe principles. Liposuction is a very safe and rewarding procedure when performed by qualified plastic surgeons.

Combination Procedures

Dr. DuPéré often performs liposuction to complement other procedures, including:

  • Facelift
  • Necklift
  • Tummy tuck
  • Buttock lift and shaping
  • Post weight loss procedures
  • Breast lift and breast reduction

Ageing skin and gravity lead to inevitable sagging and wrinkles. You may turn to injectable, liquid facelifts. However, when non-surgical fillers and wrinkle treatments reach their limit, facelifts can deliver dramatic improvements. Removing excess skin and repositioning underlying tissue, restores long-lasting tone and smooth features.

The neck is where the first signs of aging often appear. You can benefit from a neck lift if you’re concerned about excess, sagging skin or fat accumulated below the chin, or the hanging vertical neck bands. Dr. DuPéré often combines a neck lift with facelift surgery at his Toronto clinic when requested, but many of his patients’ concerns are limited to the neck area alone, especially when the mid-face is youthfully maintained with BOTOX® and fillers.

At the Toronto-based Visage Clinic, the tummy tuck is consistently ranked as one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgery treatments. Dr. Marc DuPéré, an experienced plastic surgeon and body contouring specialist, tailors each tummy tuck treatment to the specific requirements of the individual patient in order to get the best possible outcomes. If you’re looking for the ultimate results, this procedure in Toronto might be just what you are looking for. Tummy tuck surgery is an option for those who want to achieve their goals of having a smoother waistline, an hourglass figure, and a flatter stomach.

Buttock augmentation is among Dr. Marc DuPéré’s specialties. Only a few North American plastic surgeons perform these procedures. The appeal of soft, full bottoms isn’t a new phenomenon. A curvy, round behind has been a timeless feminine quality before the option of surgical buttocks augmentation came along. For men, round, muscular-looking buttocks are also highly desirable and many turn to their cosmetic surgeon for a little help in that department.

Body contouring procedures after weight loss are complex but very gratifying for both patients and Dr. DuPéré. Since 2001, he has developed and refined his techniques through work at one of Toronto’s LAP-BAND® surgical centers and through several courses with Dr. Ted Lockwood and Dr. J. Peter Rubin, leaders in the post-weight loss surgery industry.

Breast lift surgery improves a woman’s contours and proportions by raising and firming her breasts. Also known as mastopexy, this procedure re-creates a more youthful breast shape in response to sagging and skin laxity.

Breast reduction patients are typically seeking relief from physical symptoms caused by the excessive weight of large breasts. Breast reduction can usually solve these problems and improve the appearance of a woman’s breasts by reducing their size and weight.

Liposuction Recovery

The majority of liposuction patients go home the day of their procedure. Most can return to desk work after 5 to 10 days.

Dr. DuPéré recommends that his liposuction patients wear a compression garment for about 4 weeks after their procedure for better results.

Liposuction FAQ

  • What Should I Expect On Our First Meeting Together?

During your first consultation with Dr. DuPéré, you will discuss your objectives, as well as whether or not liposuction can help you achieve those goals. Be sure to have all of your inquiries and concerns prepared, as Dr. DuPéré will be more than pleased to assist you in obtaining answers to any and all of them.

  • How Much Weight Can I Expect To Lose After Having Liposuction Done?

It is essential that you are aware that liposuction is not a technique that aids in weight loss. Lipo is not going to result in a significant weight loss and is instead going to be used to contour the physique.

  • After My Liposuction Procedure, What Should I Expect?

Following your surgery, you should anticipate experiencing bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the parts of your body that had liposuction done. Following surgery, you will be required to wear a compression garment for a period of six weeks or until Dr. DuPéré has allowed you to stop wearing them.

  • Why Do People Get Liposuction Done?

The primary objective of liposuction is not to lessen overall body weight but rather to alter one or more parts of your body. The “problem” parts of the body that do not respond well to changes in diet and exercise are the typical targets of liposuction. In women, these areas are typically located on the outer thighs and hips, but in men, they are typically located on the waist and the back. A number of locations, including the face, neck, belly, back, buttocks, legs, and upper arms, are frequently treated as well.

The treatments of liposuction and other forms of cosmetic surgery, such as abdominoplasty, breast reduction, and facelift, are sometimes performed in conjunction with one another.

That said, the treatment of obesity does not involve liposuction and cellulite as well as stretch marks are not going to disappear using this method.

  • How Well Does Liposuction Work?

In most cases, liposuction is an extremely successful method for eliminating fat deposits from localized locations. However, if you gain weight after undergoing liposuction, the fatty bulges that were removed are likely to resurface, and they may even occur in a different part of the body.

Almost immediately after surgery, patients are able to observe a certain degree of improvement in their body contour, and this progress may continue for several weeks or even months as the swelling goes down. It may take anything from a few months to a year before you can see the full results of having liposuction done.

In most cases, liposuction will not result in a tightening of the skin over the treated area. When fat is removed from an area, the skin that surrounds it may become slightly lax after the procedure. It is possible that the skin will not begin to tighten around the treated area for up to six months. The skin of certain individuals is highly elastic and can retract more quickly than that of other individuals. In general, younger skin has a higher level of flexibility than older skin does.

That said, those who go into liposuction with the expectation that it will speed up their weight loss are almost always let down.

  • What Can You Do To Prolong Your Liposuction Results?

Liposuction is not a suitable replacement for regular exercise and a healthy diet if your goal is to reduce your body fat percentage. In point of fact, the vast majority of plastic surgeons are in agreement that the ideal candidates for liposuction are individuals who are in generally good health and are either already at or very near to their ideal weight, but who have fat deposits that do not respond to exercise. After having liposuction, maintaining a healthy weight, adhering to a nutritious diet, and engaging in regular exercise can help ensure that the results of the treatment are long lasting. When patients who have had liposuction and then gain weight, the fatty bulges that were removed during the procedure frequently reappear and for that reason following healthy habits after the surgery can be highly beneficial.

  • How Long Does The Liposuction Procedure Typically Take?

The duration of a liposuction procedure can vary depending on the areas being treated and the amount of fat being removed. In general, the procedure can take anywhere from one to several hours. Factors such as the technique used (traditional liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, or laser-assisted liposuction) and the extent of the desired outcome can influence the length of the procedure. Dr. DuPéré will provide a more accurate estimate based on your specific case during the consultation.

  • Is Liposuction A Painful Procedure?

During the liposuction procedure, local anesthesia or general anesthesia is administered to ensure your comfort. This means that you will not feel any pain during the surgery itself. However, it is common to experience some discomfort, soreness, and swelling after the procedure. Dr. DuPéré will prescribe pain medication to manage any postoperative discomfort. Following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions, including wearing compression garments and taking prescribed medication, will help minimize pain and ensure a smoother recovery.

  • Can Liposuction Remove Cellulite?

Liposuction is not designed to specifically target cellulite. While the procedure can improve body contours by removing excess fat, it does not directly address the appearance of cellulite. However, in some cases, the reduction of fat in certain areas may result in a mild improvement in the appearance of cellulite. If cellulite is a primary concern, your plastic surgeon may recommend additional treatments or procedures that specifically target cellulite, such as laser treatments or radiofrequency therapy.

  • How Long Does It Take To See The Final Results Of Liposuction?

The final results of liposuction gradually become visible as the swelling subsides and the body heals. While you will notice an immediate improvement in body contours after the procedure, it can take several months for the full results to emerge. Initially, some swelling and bruising are normal, but these gradually resolve over time. Dr. DuPéré will provide you with post-operative care instructions, including wearing compression garments and attending follow-up appointments, to ensure proper healing and monitor your progress.

  • Can Liposuction Treat Obesity Or Be Used As A Weight-Loss Method?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss method and is not suitable for treating obesity. It is primarily a body contouring procedure that targets specific areas of localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. The amount of fat removed during liposuction is generally limited to a safe volume that ensures patient safety. It is important to maintain realistic expectations and understand that liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and weight-loss strategies.

  • How Long Is The Recovery Period After Liposuction?

The recovery period after liposuction varies depending on the extent of the procedure and individual healing capabilities. Most patients can expect to return to work and resume light activities within a few days to a week. However, it is important to avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and exercise for several weeks to allow the body to heal properly. Dr. DuPéré will provide specific post-operative instructions tailored to your case to ensure a smooth recovery.

  • Will Liposuction Result In Loose Or Sagging Skin?

Liposuction removes excess fat from specific areas, but its effect on skin elasticity depends on various factors, including the quality of your skin, age, and the amount of fat being removed. In cases where the skin has good elasticity, it will retract and conform to the new body contours after fat removal. However, if your skin has poor elasticity or if a significant amount of fat is removed, some degree of loose or sagging skin may remain. In such cases, additional procedures such as a tummy tuck or skin tightening treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal results.

  • Are The Results Of Liposuction Permanent?

The fat cells removed during liposuction do not grow back. Therefore, the results of liposuction are considered permanent in terms of fat reduction in the treated areas. However, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, to prevent new fat deposits from forming in other areas of the body. Weight gain after liposuction can affect the overall body contour and may lead to a disproportionate appearance. By maintaining a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle, you can enjoy long-lasting results from your liposuction procedure.

  • Can Liposuction Be Performed On Multiple Areas At Once?

Liposuction can be performed on multiple areas of the body during the same procedure. This allows for a more comprehensive body contouring transformation. However, the decision to treat multiple areas simultaneously depends on various factors, such as the extent of the procedure, your overall health, and your surgeon’s recommendations. Combining multiple areas in a single surgery can provide a more balanced and harmonious outcome, but it is important to consider factors such as the duration of the procedure and your body’s ability to handle the recovery process. Dr. DuPéré will discuss the best approach for your individual case during the consultation.

Benefits of SAFELipo

Dr. DuPéré also applies the principles of SAFELipo, popularized by Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr., in the United States. This 3-step technique consists of fat separation, aspiration, and equalization. The use of a special exploded-basket cannula is required. This technique allows Dr. DuPéré to leave some micrografts of fat and stem cells in place, which helps prevent contour deformity. That makes SAFELipo a predictable and safe technique.

Risks and Complications

Every surgery comes with potential risks. Though serious complications are rare, Dr. DuPéré educates all liposuction patients about risks such as: scarring, opening of the wound, temporary discomfort , bleeding and bruising around the surgical sites, loss of sensation over the surgical site and around the scar, fluid accumulation (seroma and hematomas), infection, nerve and vessel injury, skin necrosis, fat embolism, deep vein thrombosis, contour asymmetry, and skin surface irregularity.
