Most of Dr. DuPéré’s Toronto laser hair removal patients require several sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to ensure long-lasting results. This is because hairs grow in cycles, and laser hair removal is only effective during each hair’s growth phase.

There is no shortage of options for laser hair removal available today. However, Dr. DuPéré has selected both the Forever Bare BBL and the Elite+ devices. BBL, short for broadband light, sends pulses of light energy throughout a wider area at once, covering a larger treatment site in less time. On the other hand, Elite+ uses a dual wavelength laser to gently, yet effectively disrupt follicular activity. We’re pleased to offer 2 distinctive devices to our prospective hair removal patients. It’s a common misconception that hair removal of any sort is prohibited before a laser hair removal procedure. However, you may safely shave or trim your unwanted hair before your visit. Not all forms of hair removal are permitted, however. Waxing, tweezing, depilatories, and any other type of hair removal that removes hair beneath the skin’s surface can affect your laser hair removal results. It’s best to avoid these for at least 3 weeks before your visit. We also advise against sun exposure or sunless tanning (such as in a salon) from 3 to 4 weeks before your procedure, as there must be a good contrast between the color of your skin and the color of your hair for the treatment to be effective.
When it comes to the effectiveness of laser hair removal, the type or location of the hair doesn’t matter as much as the color of the hair. Because laser hair removal uses the pigment in hair to conduct laser energy to the follicle, dark hair on lighter skin tends to respond best. A strong contrast is helpful because it more efficiently directs the laser to the hair follicle. It is important to note that many of today’s lasers, including the devices used at Visage, are better equipped to treat people with darker skin tones.
