The Art of Ageing

April 15th, 2025 Share

Ageing is such an incredible privilege. To see our face transform in the mirror over the years is a powerful reminder of every adventure we have experienced. At the same time, many people wish to honour the memory of their younger years by taking the initiative to enhance their appearance. One such way is through the facelift – Dr. DuPéré’s favourite procedure to perform.

A facelift is a way to celebrate your own unique beauty while simultaneously giving oneself a “fresher” look.

Age is obviously a very important factor especially in our older patients with medical issues.  But how young is too young for a facelift is a different issue.  Dr Du Péré will recommend a facelift if the following clinical findings are present:

1. saggy neck bands (chicken or turkey neck), which is a weak muscle problem,

2. excess skin from ageing and/or weight loss,

3. droopy jowls,

4. droopy cheeks,

5. heavy brows and heavy lids

Patients often ask if other procedures could be done at the same time. Common adjunct procedures Dr DuPéré may suggest include lid surgery, fat grafting to face for patients needing volume and laser treatment for sun-damaged skin.

Here at VISAGE, your journey will be closely foll owed by our team from arrival until the final follow-up and beyond. The surgery is done at our facility in our state-of-the-art level 3 (maximal level) operating room with a Canadian board-certified anesthesiologist.  You will stay here at our clinic for the first post-operative night in one of our private rooms with around the clock care by two experienced nurses. Dinner and breakfast are provided.  You also have access to movie services such as Netflix. The following morning, you will see Dr DuPéré for a first post-op check then a loved one will accompany you home.

The recovery is what Dr. DuPéré calls a “social recovery”. Most patients report that the pain and discomfort of this procedure is minimal. However, you will experience some bruising and swelling in the initial post-operative period which may have you wearing a big hat, big sunglasses and scarf for a bit, Hollywood-style! You will be provided with a soft facial/neck garment that you will wear for one week; it has Velcro and can be adjusted easily for maximal comfort.  You will have very small fine stitches that will be removed one week later by our nursing team.  You will need to avoid gym-level activity for a few weeks while your body recuperates. Our nursing team will be meeting with you throughout the first month for suture removal and incision care as well as to cheer you on!

We meet patients of all ages for facelifts who live vibrant, captivating lives that have been spent in service to the people they love. To see them take time to prioritize themselves is especially fulfilling when we watch them walk out of the clinic with a bigger smile on their face than when they walked in.

If you’re contemplating booking that consult – give us a ring. We are constantly hearing from our patients that their only regret is that they didn’t come see us sooner!
