Did You Know That Dr. DuPéré’s Mommy Makeover Includes Much More Than the Abdomen and the Breasts?

By Dr. Marc DuPéré, Plastic Surgeon and Founder of Maison VISAGE, Toronto

Pregnancy and childbirth are among life’s most extraordinary experiences. They transform a woman emotionally, spiritually, and physically. While the joy of motherhood is immeasurable, the changes that occur in the body can be profound and, in many cases, permanent.

Most women are familiar with the concept of a “Mommy Makeover,” typically described as a combination of abdominal and breast procedures designed to restore the body after pregnancy. But what many women do not realize is that childbirth affects much more than just the tummy and the breasts.

At Maison VISAGE in Toronto, my approach to the Mommy Makeover is comprehensive and highly personalized. In addition to tummy tucks and breast surgery, I frequently address changes involving the mons pubis, labia, vaginal canal, and intimate sexual wellness. My goal is to help women feel restored—not only in appearance, but also in comfort, confidence, and intimacy.

The Traditional Mommy Makeover

The classic Mommy Makeover focuses on two anatomical regions most affected by pregnancy:

The Abdomen

Pregnancy stretches the abdominal skin and muscles, often causing:

  • Loose or hanging skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Separation of the rectus muscles (diastasis recti) and secondary forward projection of the abdomen
  • Stubborn fat deposits
  • Weakened abdominal support
  • Aged and stretched umbilicus (belly-button)

The gold-standard solution is the abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. This procedure removes excess skin, tightens the abdominal muscles, repairs diastasis, repositions and restores umbilical youth, and provides a flatter, stronger abdominal contour.

Liposuction is often added to contour the waist, flanks, lower back, and upper abdomen for a more harmonious result.  And yes, the fat harvested with the liposuction can be used to augment other areas such as the hip-dips, cheeks, temples and lips, and the labia.

The Breasts

Pregnancy and breastfeeding frequently lead to:

  • Loss of volume
  • Deflation of the upper breast
  • Breast drooping (ptosis)
  • Asymmetry
  • Enlarged or stretched areolae

Depending on the patient’s anatomy and goals, treatment may include:

  • Breast lift (mastopexy)
  • Breast lift with implants
  • Breast augmentation alone
  • Breast reduction with lift when breasts have become heavier and uncomfortable

Some women desire fuller cleavage and upper pole fullness, while others simply wish to restore a youthful, natural breast shape without implants.

But Pregnancy Affects Much More Than the Abdomen and Breasts

Childbirth also significantly impacts the vulvar and vaginal tissues. These intimate changes are common, yet many women feel uncomfortable discussing them.

At Maison VISAGE, these concerns are approached with the same professionalism, discretion, and surgical expertise as any other part of the body.

Monspasty (Pubis Lift)

The mons pubis—the soft mound above the vulva—often becomes enlarged or droopy after pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or aging.

This may result in:

  • A bulging appearance in clothing or swimwear
  • Excess skin hanging over the vulva
  • Difficulty with hygiene
  • Self-consciousness during intimacy

A monsplasty, or pubic lift, elevates and reshapes the mons pubis, reducing fullness and restoring a smoother, more youthful contour.  Liposuction of the mons is often required along with the skin excision.

In fact, many women undergoing tummy tuck benefit from a monsplasty, as the lower abdomen and mons pubis are anatomically connected and should often be treated together.

Labiaplasty

Pregnancy and vaginal delivery can stretch the labia minora, causing:

  • Excess tissue protruding beyond the labia majora
  • Irritation during exercise or intercourse
  • Discomfort in tight clothing
  • Cosmetic concerns

Labiaplasty reduces and reshapes the labia minora, improving comfort and appearance while preserving natural anatomy and sensitivity.  The part exercised is also often darker and our ladies like the fact that this darker component is removed at the same time.

Labial Puffing (Labia Majora Augmentation)

Over time, the outer lips (labia majora) may lose volume and appear flattened or deflated.

Labial puffing restores youthful fullness using:

  • Fat grafting (the most natural option), or
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers

The result is a softer, more hydrated, and more youthful appearance of the vulva.  Fat can be harvested anywhere and the common areas would be abdomen, flanks, bra rolls, inner thighs and inner knees.  Analogous to a breast lift and implant augmentation, labia majora can also benefit from both skin excision and volume restoration if the excess mucosa is severe along with the deflation.

Vaginoplasty

Childbirth will commonly stretch the vaginal canal and supporting tissues, leading to:

  • Reduced tightness
  • Decreased friction (therefore decreased pleasure for both partners) during intercourse
  • Sensation of looseness
  • Difficulty retaining tampons

Vaginoplasty surgically tightens the vaginal canal and perineal muscles (those involved in Kegel exercises) to restore support and improve sexual function and confidence.

G-Spot Enhancement

G-spot enhancement involves precise injection of filler or biologic material into the anterior vaginal wall to increase prominence and potentially heighten sensitivity and friction during intercourse in selected patients.

While results vary from person to person, many women report enhanced sexual responsiveness.

The O-Shot (Orgasm Shot)

The O-Shot uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from the patient’s own blood and injected into targeted vaginal tissues.

Potential benefits may include:

  • Improved lubrication
  • Enhanced sensitivity
  • Stronger orgasms
  • Reduction in mild urinary leakage

Because the treatment uses the patient’s own growth factors, it is a regenerative approach that complements surgical procedures and other sexual wellness therapies.  PRP is also often used during our DIVA vaginal laser tightening treatment.

Sexual Wellness Is an Important Part of Postpartum Recovery

Pregnancy changes are not solely cosmetic. Many women experience:

  • Decreased sensation
  • Reduced lubrication
  • Stress urinary leakage
  • Discomfort during intercourse
  • Loss of self-confidence

A modern Mommy Makeover should address both form and function.

By combining aesthetic surgery with sexual wellness procedures, women can feel more comfortable in their bodies and more confident in intimate relationships.

Why Combining Procedures Makes Sense

Many women choose to undergo several procedures during one operative session. This approach offers several advantages:

  • One anesthetic
  • One recovery period
  • Lower overall cost compared with staging procedures
  • Comprehensive rejuvenation from breasts to abdomen to intimate anatomy

Each surgical plan is customized according to anatomy, health status, and personal priorities.

Safety First: Accredited Surgical Excellence

All surgeries are performed in our fully accredited Level 3 Out-of-Hospital Premises (OHP) surgical facility at Maison VISAGE in Toronto.

Patients benefit from:

  • Board-certified anesthesiologists
  • Highly trained plastic surgery perioperative nurses
  • State-of-the-art equipment and monitoring
  • Strict infection control standards
  • Accredited and supervised overnight recovery with 2 nurses.

For most Mommy Makeovers, overnight observation provides additional comfort, pain management, and professional monitoring.

Safety, discretion, and compassionate care are central to every patient experience.  Patients can be safely and discretely taken (all indoors) to our dedicated underground parking.

When Is the Best Time for a Mommy Makeover?

The ideal candidate is a woman who:

  • Has completed her family or does not plan additional pregnancies
  • Is close to her stable target weight
  • Has stopped breastfeeding for at least 3 to 6 months
  • Is in good general health
  • Has realistic expectations

A detailed consultation allows us to discuss your anatomy, concerns, and goals, and to create a surgical plan tailored specifically to you.

The Emotional Impact of Restoration

A Mommy Makeover is not about trying to look like someone else. It is about restoring what pregnancy and childbirth have altered.

Women frequently tell me they feel:

  • More confident in clothing and swimwear
  • More comfortable during exercise
  • More youthful and feminine
  • More at ease during intimacy
  • More connected to the person they were before pregnancy

For many, the transformation is both physical and deeply emotional.
