At VISAGE Clinic, under the expert care of Dr. Mar c DuPéré, liposuction is a transformative procedure that helps patients achieve a more sculpted, high-definition contoured body. As one of the most requested cosmetic surgeries, understanding the costs and the factors that influence them is essential for anyone considering the procedure. If you’re curious about how much liposuction costs in Toronto and what factors play a role in determining that price, this blog will provide you with a detailed breakdown.
Before discussing key elements that influence the price of your liposuction procedure, Dr DuPéré finds it crucial to go over the following key concepts.
Liposuction requires technique, art, and safety.
Liposuction requires breaking down the fat and suctioning it out. When doing so, the surgeon creates what Dr DuPéré calls it, “swiss cheese” within the fatty layers, that is, the surgeon creates tunnels of suctioned fat. It is crucial to “attack” each area of liposuction via different directions (different ports of entry) in order to minimize creating a permanent “tunnel” and uneven skin. The surgeon must also know the various anatomic zones as some areas have two layers of fat (safer areas) and some have one layer of fat. It is common and safer to work on the 2-layer zones (outer and inner thighs, arms, abdomen, flanks, back) but it is equally important to work on the one-layer regions, especially for the lipedema patients (anterior thighs, calves, forearms, iliac rolls). For those one-layer fat, patience is crucial as it has to be done slowly, carefully and with full attention.
Unlike the techniques, the art component cannot be be easily taught. Most are born artists or not. Artistry is a must for high-definition liposuction where the traditional barriers are broken and surpassed. You will be pleased to know that Dr DuPéré has been gifted in artistic qualities (painting, sculpting, architecture and design, etc.) and it comes handy when performing liposuction. Liposuction requires attention to details, proportions, gender, cultural and ethnic considerations. Females will require a hourglass shape whereas males will want a triangular torso. Hip-to-shoulder ratio is crucial in ladies but also for men, albeit a different ideal equation. Smooth curves are youthful and the surgeon must “have the eye” for where the fat needs to be removed and where it should be augmented (fat grafting). Removing the sacral diamond-shaped fat pads in a lady is essential as to create a beautiful sexy lordosis along with a gentle transition. Hip-dips are desirable for a muscular lean look (males) but less desirable for a lady wanting fuller rounder apple or pear-shaped derrière. Males are looking for a “bubble” or latin buttock. Removing the small iliac roll in addition to the “love handle” brings also big benefits in establishing a suave curve in a lady. Smooth transiti ons are also crucial in the back-buttock area, the forearm and arm area, calve-knee-thigh regions, etc. Thinning the torso adds length to a lady. On the contrary, too large and too long saddlebags will make a lady look shorter. So you can see how many considerations are required to achieve the best-sculpted version of you, much more than the amount of milliliters of fat removed.
Finally, safety is crucial. Liposuction uses thin long rigid metal “wands” which are used with great forces, so it is crucial that the surgeon be experienced and focused on the work as any lack of attention can lead to complications. One has to feel the cannula under the skin at all times to assure the proper depth. Patience is required. Smaller cannulas are needed for regions of one-layered fat so longer to perform liposuction. Using a tumescence solution is crucial to minimize bleeding. Iron supplements are recommended 4-6 weeks pre and for a few weeks post-op to help in the recovery. S.A.F.E. (separation, aspiration, fat equalization) liposuction principles are very important. Equalization if crucial in leveling up the areas of possible tunnels and depressions at the end of the liposuction procedure when no suction is used but some broken fat cells are allowed to stay and find an area of possible depression. Post-op lymphatic drainage can also help in that regard, in addition to reducing swelling. When liposuctioning the legs as Dr. DuPéré often does with lipedema patients, giving patients a blood thinner is very important along with early-post-op ambulation. Respecting the 5000ml aspirated volume is another way to enhance safety along with keeping our large-volume liposuction patients overnight under nursing supervision adds safety to our patients.
Factors That Affect the Price of Liposuction
The cost of liposuction in Toronto can vary based on several factors. At VISAGE Clinic, we ensure that every patient’s procedure is customized to meet their specific needs.
- Treatment Area(s)
The size, location and number of areas treated are some of the most important factors in determining the time required in surgery and therefore the cost. Larger areas, such as the abdomen or thighs, typically cost more than smaller areas. Doing a 360-degree liposuction involves flipping our patients and this adds time and therefore cost to surgery. Liposuction on multiple areas will naturally involve more time and effort, which can impact the price. Liposuction to delicate areas such as the neck and to the one-layer fat zones requires more time and more finesse, which adds time to surgery. Thinner patient who are hoping to get that last 5-10% of excess fat will also require the use of smaller cannula and therefore, more time in surgery.
2. Type of Liposuction
Unlike traditional methods, Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is more efficient and requires less manual effort, but this cutting-edge technology comes with a price. The advanced equipment, as well as the expertise required to use it effectively, is reflected in the overall cost. Dr. DuPéré’s specialized training in PAL ensures that each patient receives the best care and results.
3. Anesthesia Costs
At VISAGE Clinic, we prioritize your comfort during the procedure. Most liposuction procedures performed at our clinic are done under general anesthesia, ensuring that you remain completely comfortable and relaxed throughout the process. Anesthesia costs are factored into the overall price and can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure.
4. Surgeon Expertise
The skill and experience of the surgeon performing the procedure is an important consideration in pricing. Dr. DuPéré is a highly skilled, experienced and artistic plastic surgeon who exclusively performs liposuction using PAL, ensuring precision and the best possible outcomes. His expertise is a key factor in delivering exceptional, long-lasting results.
5. Facility and Operating Room Fees
The high-end, fully accredited surgical facilities at VISAGE Clinic are designed to offer a safe and comfortable environment for every procedure. Operating room fees and facility costs are an essential part of the overall pricing.
6. Amount of Fat Removed
The more fat that needs to be removed, the more time and effort the procedure will require, which can influence the cost. Each patient’s goals and the amount of fat to be removed will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation with Dr. DuPéré.
Liposuction to the Most Wanted Areas
Some of the most popular areas for liposuction include the following:
- A bdomen: This is one of the most common areas treated with liposuction, especially for those struggling with stubborn belly fat.
- Thighs: Whether inner or outer thighs, liposuction can create smoother, more defined contours.
- Flanks (Love Handles): Liposuction on the flanks can help create a more defined waistline and eliminate fat around the hips.
- Arms: Fat removal from the upper arms can give a more toned and defined appearance.
- Chin and Neck: Liposuction in these areas can eliminate a double chin and refine your facial profile.
- Back: Liposuction on the back, including the upper and lower areas, can smooth out unwanted bulges and rolls and will contour the body.
- Anterior thighs, calves, forearms, iliac rolls will be common added requests for our lipedema patients.
