Dr. DuPéré’s Breast Reduction Technique

Breast reduction takes place under general anesthesia in most cases. The procedure generally takes about 3 hours.

Dr. DuPéré employs a European method called Lejour Vertical Reduction (also known as the lollipop scar technique) in 95 percent of his breast reduction procedures. This technique causes less scarring and discomfort than other methods such as the anchor technique. It also greatly diminishes the chance of decreased nipple sensation and prevents wide inframmary scars.

Dr. DuPéré uses glandular remodeling and fascial suspension techniques to provide vertical support. He also removes excess skin when performing breast reduction surgery. A breast lift is always a positive outcome of a breast reduction procedure.

Each of Dr. DuPéré’s breast reduction procedures includes liposuction to remove excess fat. Liposuction eliminates bra and axillary (underarm) rolls. It also enhances the cosmetic outcome of breast reduction by contouring the breast glands and creating a better breast shape. Dr. DuPéré often incorporates breast lift techniques into reduction procedures.

Candidates for a Breast Reduction Procedure

At Maison VISAGE Clinic, we understand that each patient’s unique needs and concerns are of paramount importance. If you find that your breasts have lost their youthful appearance as seen with breasts being more saggy, a breast lift procedure might be the ideal solution for you.

Should you also feel your breasts are too large, a reduction can be done at the same time, appreciating that smaller breasts will make your breast lift results last longer.

Dr. DuPéré, renowned for his skill and artistry in plastic surgery, will work closely with each patient to understand their unique goals and concerns. During the initial consultation, he will conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine whether a breast reduction procedure is the most suitable option for your needs.

Ideal candidates for a breast reduction procedure are individuals who experience one or more of the following concerns:

  • Physical Discomfort

Women burdened with excessively large breasts may encounter chronic pain in the neck, shoulders, and back, leading to discomfort and posture issues. Breast reduction surgery can alleviate these physical strains, promoting a more comfortable and active lifestyle.

  • Limited Physical Activity

If your large breasts hinder your ability to engage in physical activities or exercise, a breast reduction can restore your freedom of movement and enhance your overall well-being.

  • Skin Irritation and Rashes

Women with large breasts often experience skin irritation, rashes, or chafing in the areas beneath the breasts due to excessive friction. Breast reduction surgery can alleviate these uncomfortable conditions and improve skin health.

  • Self-Consciousness and Body Image Concerns

Overly large breasts can lead to feelings of self-consciousness, impacting confidence and self-esteem. By reducing the breast size, patients may experience a positive transformation in body image and gain renewed self-assurance.

  • Difficulty Finding Well-Fitting Clothes

If shopping for clothes has become a frustrating experience due to the challenge of finding appropriate sizes to accommodate larger breasts, a breast reduction can simplify your clothing options and enhance your shopping experience.

  • Asymmetry and Proportional Imbalance

Breast reduction surgery can address cases of breast asymmetry, where one breast is significantly larger than the other, helping to achieve a more balanced and symmetrical appearance.

Breast Reduction FAQ

  • What are the common reasons for seeking breast reduction surgery?

Although Dr DuPéré performs breast reduction procedures for aesthetic reasons, some women may seek breast reduction surgery to address various issues, such as chronic back, neck, or shoulder pain caused by the weight of large breasts; should those latter symptoms be present, it is possible the procedure may be covered by the provincial plan if done in hospital with a hospital-based reconsrtructive surgeon. Other reasons one would request a breast reduction procedure include difficulty finding well-fitting clothing, self-consciousness about breast size, asymmetry and physical limitations during sports or exercise due to heavy breasts.

  • How is breast reduction surgery performed, and what techniques are used?

Breast reduction surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia. Various techniques can be employed, such as the anchor-shaped incision, the vertical – so-called lollipop or Lejour – incision, or the periareolar incision. The chosen technique depends on the extent of breast reduction required and the surgeon’s preference.

  • Will there be visible scarring after breast reduction surgery?

While breast reduction surgery does result in some scarring, a skilled surgeon like Dr. DuPéré takes care to place incisions strategically, minimizing their visibility. Scars usually fade over time and can be well-concealed within natural breast creases and contours.

  • What is the recovery process like after breast reduction surgery?

The recovery period after breast reduction surgery varies from person to person. Patients may experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain medication. Patients are encouraged to rest and avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks, following their surgeon’s post-operative instructions.

  • Will breast reduction surgery affect breastfeeding ability?

Breast reduction surgery may impact breastfeeding ability to some extent, as certain breast tissues and ducts are removed and severed during the procedure. It is essential to discuss your plans for breastfeeding with your surgeon during the consultation.

  • Are there any risks or complications associated with breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is generally safe when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. DuPéré. However, like any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, including infection, scarring, changes in nipple sensitivity, and asymmetry. Dr. DuPéré will discuss these risks with you during the consultation and take every precaution to ensure a safe and successful outcome.

  • How long do the results of breast reduction surgery last?

The results of breast reduction surgery are long-lasting, provided that patients maintain a stable weight and follow their surgeon’s post-operative care instructions. Aging and natural changes in the breasts over time may still occur, but many women enjoy the benefits of a more proportionate and comfortable breast size for many years.
