This very beautiful young woman, in her early twenties, came to see Toronto Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Marc DuPéré for a consultation regarding bilateral calf implants.

The patient had been born with what is commonly known as club foot.  Club foot is a fairly common congenital birth defect and is usually an isolated problem for an otherwise healthy newborn.   In clubfoot, the tissues connecting the muscles to the bone (tendons) are shorter than usual and are generally very underdeveloped and can affect both or only one foot.   This patient had been through many surgeries as a child to correct the foot positioning and now a young woman, she wanted to improve the shape of her lower legs.

This patient first came into to see Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Marc DuPéré by herself, wanting to see if she would how she would feel at Visage Clinic.  Dr. DuPéré thoroughly explained how the silicone gel calf implants would help improve the shape of her lower legs, what the realistic expectations are, what the risks of the procedure are and how much time would be needed recovery.  The patient was very comfortable with Dr. DuPéré and the Visage Clinic staff, making an appointment to bring her parents in the following week for a re-discussion

Her parents were very concerned that their daughter would be well taken care of and that she had the best surgeon possible.  After their discussion with Dr. Marc DuPéré, they immediately decided together with their daughter, to proceed with calf augmentation using the solid silicone gel implants.

Calf implants can be used to correct severe muscle deterioration resulting from injury or nerve diseases deformities including polio, spina bifida and clubfoot.   Calf implants can used both unilaterally and bilaterally.  This surgery requires an extremely specialized board certified plastic surgeon that has made body implants an established part of their practice and has an artistic eye of a sculptor.

The surgery was uneventful and our patient’s healing time was very normal.  The pictures are 2 weeks post surgery and the patient, her parents and Dr. DuPéré are extremely pleased with the results.  At this date, there is significant improvement and the implants are still being held tightly against the leg by the fascia which is lining above the muscle.  As the fascia stretches over a six week time period, the legs will become increasingly shapely and have a much stronger appearance.    Our lovely young patient will be going shopping for short skirts and dresses!
