How can one optimize laser hair removal results?

December 30th, 2019 Share

At Visage clinic, we offer a variety of laser treatments to address the concerns of our clients and one very popular request is permanent hair removal. On this blog, I will be answering the most frequently asked questions about laser hair removal treatments.

  1. What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a method of permanent hair reduction that can be used anywhere in the body.

  1. How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses pulses of light energy that passes through the skin into the hair follicle to destroy the hair cells that are responsible for hair growth. This is a process that requires multiple treatments as our hairs grow in 3 different stages and our hair is not always all at the same stage needed for destruction; therefore only a percentage of follicles will be affected at each visit, requiring a serie of treatments.

  1. How effective is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction.  It is a gradual decrease in the hair thickness and in the amount of hair and overtime, there is less maintenance needed as compared with other hair removal options on the market.

  1. Is laser hair removal permanent?

This is a permanent method of hair reduction that offers long term improvements and laser hair removal is one of the best options to slow down hair growth. There is about 70-90% reduction of hairs in any area treated.  That being said, overtime, our body produces new hair follicles that will need to be treated.

  1. How has laser hair removal technology and laser machines evolved over the past ten years?

In the last decade, we have seen significant improvement in laser hair removal technologies: 1. better laser absorption and penetration for more efficacy, 2. it is now possible to treat larger areas such as legs, arms and full backs, 3. treatments are much quicker with less irritation and downtime and 4. the treatments are significantly less painful than in the past, as the laser engineers have added effective cooling technology for better treatment tolerance to deliver optimum results.

  1. Does laser hair removal work on light hair?

Laser energy looks for darker pigment in the hair so if the hair is white, blond or red, the laser does not see it;  therefore, the darker the hair the most effective the treatment results will be.

  1. Is having laser hair removal safe?

Yes, it is a safe treatment when performed by an experienced laser technician.   I always recommend having a consultation prior to your treatment: there are a few things to avoid before a laser session to prevent unnecessary side effects and all this is discussed in depth during your consultation with our Visage expert laser technicians who have over 20 years experience and who will provide the best quality of service and care while making safety their priority.  Very importantly, they will determine the best treatment for YOU.

  1. Is laser hair removal safe for people with darker skin?

There are some lasers that can treat all types of skin colors safely and effectively and our laser hair removal device is one of the best on the market because it has two laser wavelengths, an Alexandrite laser and a Nd:Yag laser for excellent hair reduction for all skin types, including light and dark skin and most hair colors. We recommend patients and clients to come in for a consultation to assess the hair and skin as they might have to use a melanocyte-control cream over a period of time before having a laser treatment and if necessary, a patch test will also be done a few weeks prior to commencing on a serie of treatments.

VISAGE is an accredited plastic surgery facility with Dr. Marc DuPéré as the medical director, therefore the quality of our lasers and their maintenance are always on point. If you are looking for quality of service, quality of care and safety, this is the place for all your laser hair removal needs.
