Liposuction in Toronto
Dr. Marc DuPéré has performed liposuction and liposculpting since 2001. While new tools are constantly appearing on the ever-demanding liposuction market, suction-assisted liposuction has always remained a top choice because of its consistent, predictable results and low complication rate. Dr. DuPéré uses suction-assisted liposuction (lipo) in Toronto, applying the principles of SAFELipo® and tumescence infiltration to achieve a better silhouette and contour.

How Can Liposuction Help?
This procedure provides a more defined, more athletic, and sexier body by:
- Selectively removing fat
- Providing more of an hourglass shape for women
- Restoring the V shape of the male torso
- Creating sexier lines in the legs
- Sculpting the buttocks for a firmer and fuller appearance
- Flattening the abdomen
- Correcting a double chin
If you are concerned about fat on the neck that creates a double chin, you may also be a good candidate for non-surgical BELKYRA™ injections. Dr. DuPéré can help you determine which is best for your needs.
Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure but rather a sculpting technique to provide more attractive, sexier contours. It is most suitable for people who are committed to staying in shape via good nutrition and regular exercise. Overweight patients and those who have experienced significant weight loss may need a combination of liposuction and skin excision procedures.
Dr. DuPéré’s Liposuction Techniques
Liposuction and liposculpting use several specially tipped cannulas to shape the various parts of the body. Common areas include the neck, arms, abdomen, love handles, back and bra rolls, buttocks, hips, outer and inner thighs, inner knees, and calves.
Dr. DuPéré’s experience with various technologies — including suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), ultrasonic, VASER®, power-assisted liposuction (PAL), Smartlipo™, and BodyTite™ — has given him the wisdom to choose the tool that works best for a patient’s unique needs.
Prior to the procedure, Dr. DuPéré makes detailed markings on the patient. Most procedures take place under full general anesthesia, although the doctor can also treat specific areas such as the neck or the inner knees under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. The procedure starts with a tumescent solution, a technique that has revolutionized our liposuction procedures. A tumescent solution is a mixture of diluted local anesthetics with a small amount of adrenaline (epinephrine). The adrenaline temporarily shrinks the blood vessels and leads to less bruising, allowing Dr. DuPéré to remove more unwanted fat safely. In Canada, removing up to 5,000 ml at a time is considered safe.
The painter is the one who creates a masterpiece — not the brush. Make sure your plastic surgeon is an artist and uses sound and safe principles. Liposuction is a very safe and rewarding procedure when performed by qualified plastic surgeons.
Benefits of SAFELipo
Dr. DuPéré also applies the principles of SAFELipo, popularized by Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr., in the United States. This 3-step technique consists of fat separation, aspiration, and equalization. The use of a special exploded-basket cannula is required. This technique allows Dr. DuPéré to leave some micrografts of fat and stem cells in place, which helps prevent contour deformity. That makes SAFELipo a predictable and safe technique.
Dr. DuPéré often performs liposuction to complement other procedures, including:
- Facelift and neck lift
- Tummy tuck
- Buttock lift and shaping
- Post weight loss procedures
- Breast lift and breast reduction
Dr. DuPéré also commonly performs muscle etching along with liposuction procedures.
The majority of liposuction patients go home the day of their procedure. Most can return to desk work after 5 to 10 days.
Dr. DuPéré recommends that his liposuction patients wear a compression garment for about 4 weeks after their procedure for better results.
Lymphatic drainage can also help speed your recovery, and our registered massage therapist can also help you speed things along.
Risks and Complications
Every surgery comes with potential risks. Though serious complications are rare, Dr. DuPéré educates all liposuction patients about risks such as: scarring, opening of the wound, temporary discomfort , bleeding and bruising around the surgical sites, loss of sensation over the surgical site and around the scar, fluid accumulation (seroma and hematomas), infection, nerve and vessel injury, skin necrosis, fat embolism, deep vein thrombosis, contour asymmetry, and skin surface irregularity.Back to Top
