How Can Facial Contouring Help?

Chin Implants

Chin implants are made of a relatively soft and flexible solid silicone. Many options are available, depending on the anatomy of your lower face and the degree of facial lengthening and thickness you want. Men commonly require wider and thicker implants. Women may require a smaller implant in order to make the lower face more oval and, as a result, more feminine.

Chin implants also help disguise "marionette lines" that can develop over time on each side of the chin and can correct the early stages of aging in the neck. With the patient under either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, Dr. DuPéré makes an incision either intra-orally (in the mouth) or under the chin if he is performing a neck procedure at the same time. He places the implant under the mentalis muscle.

Facial Implants

Facial implants are designed for augmentation, reconstruction, or rejuvenation. Available in a wide range of sizes and styles for the chin, jaw, nose, and cheek, implants add or restore contour and proportion to the face.

Lip Lift, Nasolabial and Lip Augmentation

A vertically-long upper lip, thinned out and effaced lip corners, decreased lip volume and nasolabial folds, or laugh lines, all tend to give the lower face a prematurely aged appearance. Dr. DuPéré frequently rejuvenates this area by using hyaluronic acid fillers to enhance the lips and reduce nasolabial folds. Dr. DuPéré also performs the lip lift technique and lip corner lift to rejuvenate the long lips and lift the corners of the lips. These treatments are not as comprehensive as a face lift, but they may help delay the need for surgery.

Risks and Complications

Every surgery comes with potential risks. Though serious complications are rare, Dr. DuPéré educates all facial contouring patients about risks such as: scarring, opening of the wound, temporary discomfort, bleeding and bruising around the surgical sites, loss of sensation over the surgical site and around the scar, fluid accumulation (seroma and hematomas), infection (extremely rare), nerve and vessel injury (a risk with any surgery), and skin necrosis (possibly treatable with wound care).
