Brow Lift
A brow lift raises sagging eyebrows and reduces lines and creases caused by aging and certain inherited traits. Younger adults who have a low brow or who already have deep frown lines due to stress or muscle over-activity may also benefit from a brow lift. At his Toronto practice, Dr. Marc DuPéré performs brow lifts (also called forehead lifts) for men and women who want more youthful features and a smoother forehead. With a brow lift, the eyebrows can also be shaped in a more feminine way with a higher outer arch. Dr DuPéré also commonly performs a brow lift in the transgendered male-to-female patients to feminize a face; with his technique, he can achieve 3 beneficial results: more feminine eyebrows, reduction of frontal bossing, and an advancement of the anterior scalp for a more youthful and feminine forehead.
Dr. DuPéré is a Royal College-certified plastic surgeon who consistently achieves a more youthful appearance with his brow lift procedures. Request a consultation or call our office at (416) 929-9800.
How Can a Brow Lift Help?
A brow lift rejuvenates the brow by removing excess tissue, altering muscles and tightening the forehead skin. This procedure can correct the following conditions:
- Forehead creases and furrows
- Drooping eyebrows
- Hooding over eyes
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
Dr. DuPéré’s Brow Lift Techniques

Coronal Incision
Brow lift surgery is most often done using general anesthesia. Dr. DuPéré uses the traditional brow lift technique for patients with pronounced forehead aging. This approach is common in patients with a low hairline and involves making what’s known as a coronal incision just behind the hairline that is easily camouflaged in the hair. For women with a high forehead and for most men, raising the hairline is not favourable, and therefore a well-executed hairline incision is performed. This is also a favourite technique when a scalp advancement is considered along with reduction of forehead bossing.
He performs a temporal lift for patients with less advanced aging in this area and for those where the main issue is sagging of the tail of the eyebrows. Instead of making a single long incision, Dr. DuPéré makes one smaller temporal incision on each side of the forehead within the hairline and pulls the outer part of the eyebrows out and up for a younger-looking arched eyebrow.
Complementary Procedures
Many men and women who come to our practice for a brow lift may also benefit from other facial rejuvenation procedures. In fact, Dr. DuPéré often combines a brow lift with a facelift when patients want results that span the entire face.
A facelift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face, while a brow lift addresses the upper portion. Because signs of aging tend to appear uniformly, it often makes sense to combine a brow lift with other procedures that will yield more comprehensive results. Our patients often choose one or more of these procedures:
- Eyelid surgery: Upper and lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) combined with a brow lift or facelift creates a complementary rested and alert appearance.
- Facelift: A facelift and brow lift performed during the same operation produces results that look natural and seamless.
- Neck lift: Even if you don’t need a facelift, the neck and forehead often show signs of aging earlier than other areas of the face. A neck lift creates a sleeker neck line.
- Dermal fillers: Injectable fillers may be the ideal treatment for less profound wrinkles and lines. It makes a good complement to a brow lift, especially for patients who may be in their early 40s or 50s.
- Mini Face Lift: Patients who don’t necessarily need a full facelift but want to address loose skin along the jawline can combine a brow lift with a mini facelift.
- Chin implant: The main purpose of a chin implant is to create balance and harmony in your facial proportions. Patients with a more prominent brow can balance it with the help of a chin implant.
Our Toronto med spa also offers a range of other nonsurgical procedures, such as laser skin resurfacing and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, to achieve an overall natural-looking result when combined with a brow lift.
Recovering from a Brow Lift
Brow lift patients usually go home on the same day as their procedure. If needed, we can arrange a supervised overnight stay. The procedure is usually performed using general anesthesia to help you remain comfortable during the operation.
Dr. DuPéré’s advanced surgical techniques, including limiting trauma to the muscle and tissue during the procedure, help minimize your discomfort during recovery. He provides patients with detailed postoperative instructions that enhance the healing process and limit your downtime.
Swelling and bruising are typical following any facial plastic surgery but should resolve by themselves within a week or 2. Once your recovery is complete, your incision lines will be well hidden behind your hairline.
Risks and Complications
Every surgery comes with potential risks. Though serious complications are rare, Dr. DuPéré educates all brow lift patients about risks such as: scarring, hairline shift, hair loss, opening of the wound, temporary discomfort, bleeding and bruising around the surgical sites, loss of sensation over the surgical site and around the scar, fluid accumulation (seroma and hematomas), infection (extremely rare), nerve and vessel injury (a risk with any surgery), skin necrosis (possibly treatable with wound care), and general anesthesia-related issues.
